This week is my week to teach preschool. We're learning about letter M, so today I brought out the M&M's to play "Don't Eat Pete!" My mom taught this game to us when I was younger and it was a huge hit during Family Home Evening.
You make a 4x4 chart and stick 1 M&M in each square. (I added colors and shapes to each square so we could work on those at the same time, but you don't have to.) Whoever is "it" goes in another room while everyone else decides on a square that is "Pete." When the person returns, they start picking M&M's off the chart and eating them one at a time. Once they pick up the M&M that is "Pete" (the M&M on the square everyone decided on) everyone yells out "DON'T EAT PETE!!" My preschoolers thought the game was hilarious and loved eating the little treat. Ben (2nd from the left) managed to get down the most M&M's without eating "Pete" - lucky kid! Tyler (1st on the left) only got down two...so I let him have a few more.
It was a fun morning. We also glued macaroni noodles (uncooked, obviously) to a big letter M, made M&M cookies for snack, played "Pin the Flag on the Mailbox," and worked on little "Me" books that have the kids' pictures, a drawing of their hands and feet, a page about things they like, and a page about their family. It was a very busy morning, and it seemed to fly by! I think I'm getting the hang of this preschool thing down.

Laura, you are so creative! I loved the story about the preschool game. Ben was so lucky, he just has that kind of luck. I am thinking about what I am going to do next week... the ideas are starting to come!
Wow! You're so creative! I love the "Don't Eat Pete" game - I'll have to make one! Preschool is at my house today for the first time, so we'll see how it goes.
sounds like it's going so well! I should use some of these ideas with kathryn even though she can't do half of them yet, she would still enjoy it!
What a fun game. It sounds like all the kids loved it. I will have to remember to try "Don't eat Pete" with Jake in the future.
What a cute game. You have such great ideas.
