Homework

In the last few weeks I have been so impressed with all that Janelle has been learning. So far she has learned letters S, B, F, and O. Her coloring skills have also drastically improved. She's finally figured out how to color in the lines. However, she's still about modern art (scribbling) sometimes...which is fine with me, it fosters imagination! The other mommies and I in our preschool group have been using a great website for preschoolers that I thought some of you might be interested in. It's http://www.first-school.ws. They've got fun craft ideas, alphabet printouts, song ideas, etc. (However, beware of all the advertising! There's lots of it...but that's what makes it free, so you can't really complain.) I've used it lots for the days I teach preschool. This picture is from one of the days that Janelle learned about letter F. She told me that the firefighter needed a fire to fight and some water to put it out, so she drew those parts herself.
"Mom, homework is fun!"
A lot of times the kids in preschool run out of time to finish everything that is planned, so the teacher just sends home pages to do if they want to. Here Janelle is working on a worksheet about numbers 7 and 8. (Sitting next to her is the octopus she made yesterday at school.) Here's a funny conversation we had on Monday after I picked her up from preschool:

Me: "So what letter did you learn about today?"
Janelle: "We learned about letter O. Did you know my mouth can make an O?
Me: "Wow, that's pretty cool!"
Janelle: "I made an orange owl today, see?" Hey did you know that Cheerios are little O's?"
Me: "Really?"
Janelle: "Yup, we ate some little Cheerio O's today."

It was so funny because it was such a realization for her that Cheerios were little O's. She thought she was so smart for figuring that out. And of course she was! It's fun watching your own children figure the world out.

Janelle has been asking for about 2 weeks to go to McDonalds, so finally I told her that we could go after her ballet class on Thursday. Right now McDonald's is promoting "The Little Mermaid" and she got this little crown in her Happy Meal. She hasn't taken it off since she pulled it out of her meal. She even had to wear it to preschool yesterday!

Spencer's Homework: Trying to grab ahold of those toys.
Janelle's not the only one figuring the world out, just yesterday Spence has figured out how to grab things. It definately takes him a few tries, but he usually manages to grab onto whatever he's eyeing.

can't believe what a young girl she is turning into. So quick to learn, just love it.

Thanks for the website! It is my day to teach preschool this Tuesday. We only do it once a week and for just an hour and a half, but since Bella isn't 3 yet I'm not sure she's ready for more than that. I love doing the preschool too, and I have also noticed some big leaps in her learning since starting!

Laura,
It is amazing how they grow and learn. Josh and Ben have been LOVING pre school also, and get sad when it is not a pre school day. They love to get homework, and practice their letters. Janelle is such a good student!

Isn't it funny how they like homework? Elisabeth loves having to do homework. It's scary how much they are understanding.

Cute pictures! That's great that you are doing a preschool. I admire anyone for working with a group of kids that age. Too much energy for me!! And I love the picture of you and Heather as ballerinas.
