The Big Boy's Big Day

Even though I'm pretty sure he didn't know what was going on, I could tell Spencer had a good day. He was all smiles all day long and too cute for his britches! We had a pretty mellow day, but it was fun just the same. My parents and sisters are out of town, so we decided to wait on the big family party until they get back next week. So today it was just our family. We opened presents and had pancakes this morning, played at our friends' pool, had a quiet afternoon, played with Aunt Rachel, Mark, & Celeste who brought him a birthday milkshake, watched "Blue's Clues," and then had cake after dinner. Here are some pictures from Spencer's big day:

(He usually gets in trouble for climbing on the fireplace, so he didn't know quite what to do when Daddy stuck him on it for a picture!)

Opening presents this morning.

Ooooooo...a "laptop" from Grandma & Grandpa Mammen!
Spencer LOVES anything with buttons, especially computers. If you'll remember at my nephew's birthday party Spencer wouldn't let anyone go near the kiddie laptop my nephew received for his birthday, so this was the perfect present. Thank you Grandma and Grandpa!

The "kitty" Spencer got from Janelle. Janelle has this black and white tiger named "Lisa" who is her very special stuffed animal (meaning she won't go to sleep at night unless she has it). Spencer LOVES it and always takes it, so when Janelle found this one at Toys R Us she was very adamant about getting it for Spencer's birthday so he would stop taking hers! (We'll see if that actually works!)

The tool table from Mommy and Daddy - Janelle seemed to like it too. Spencer's favorite thing to do with it is stick all the pieces in his mouth.

After a busy morning playing outside in the water and pool, Spencer conked out. He was so wiped that he took an extra long birthday snooze. You can tell he's really out because normally when I open his door his head pops up and he's ready to get up. This is one of very few times I actually had to wake him up! (And one of very few recent pictures I have of him asleep.)

After a busy morning, we had a lazy afternoon watching "Blue's Clues" in the laundry baskets. ("Blue's Clues + laundry baskets = a full free half hour for mommy to frost cupcakes!)

And here starts the cake!

"Yeah, I guess that tastes good enough to eat."
I had to stick some frosting in his mouth to try. He's so hesitant to try new foods these days.

"Hmmm...let's see if the plate tastes just as good."

"I'm pretty sure I'm done, now that 2/3 of it is thrown all over the floor."

"Yea! My 3rd bath of the day! All clean!"
