Hooray!!!

Begging for some rootbeer float from Daddy......"Mmmmmmmmm.".......Another successful begging trip!

Today Spencer had his urology appointment. His last appointment did not go well, so I did everything in my power not to get my hopes up for this one. (For those of you that don't know, Spencer was born with one enlarged kidney and urinary reflux in the other. The enlarged kidney usually means that there is some kind of blockage in the ureter which can either go away by itself or they can go in surgically to remove it. The reflux means he's been on antibiotics since birth to avoid any kind of infection. He's been seeing a pediatric urologist since the day after he was born for these problems and has had a few not-so-fun tests done.)

Anyway, at his last appointment in November his kidney was still much larger than it was supposed to be and the reflux was still there. At this appointment, the rate of growth for his kidney had slowed a little. It's still bigger than it's supposed to be, but it hasn't grown at the rate that it had last time. The kidney still looks healthy and seems to be functioning normally, so we're going to wait another 6 months to check it again and make anymore testing/surgery decisions. Yea!!!

He's also scheduled to do a VCUG (I have no idea what that stands for), but basically they strap Spencer down and watch his kidneys while he pees in order to see if he's still got reflux. The doctor seemed positive that he's growing out of it. So if the test results show that it's gone he doesn't have to take anymore medicine. I'll be SO happy when that happens. I hate that he's been on an antibiotic for so long.

I came home ecstatic knowing that things are a little better! Mostly I'm grateful that they can detect these kinds of problems at such an early age. I'm also grateful for an overall very healthy and happy 11-month old.
