On Friday Kyle and I took a quick weekend getaway to Ft. Worth as our sort of last hurrah before Kyle hits school in full swing. My mom graciously watched our two little munchkins so we could have two nights away. (This is the only picture I got with both of us, I took it right before the valet pulled up with our car for us to head home,
"Quick Kyle, we have to get at least one picture of both of us before we leave!"
Not the best picture, but what can you do?)

You might could say it was a rather quiet, boring weekend, but to us, it was heaven! This is what we did:
- Made a trip to the Dallas temple on the way to Ft. Worth
- Had a delicious dinner at Johnny Carinos (an Italian restaurant) before heading to our hotel
- Walked all over downtown Ft. Worth
- Spent an hour at Barnes and Noble looking at books we wanted to look at (cookbooks, Sudoku books, Sci-Fi - for Kyle, bestsellers, comic books - also for Kyle, the classics, and of course the bargain books)
- I finally got to finish reading Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West (which I'd started in January and just never had time to read, which btw, is a very political book - weird.) and Kyle started reading Black Wind by Clive Cussler
- I painted my nails
- Lounged in the pool and hot tub at the hotel
- Saw "Pirates 3" - which I was a little disappointed in, it was WAY too long, my recommendation if you haven't seen it: wait for it to come out on DVD
- Met our good friends, Sarah and Shane, for a fun and yummy Brazilian dinner
- Took a non-interrupted nap
- Picked out some chocolate truffles at a chocolate shop to take back to Janelle
- Watched part of the first Pirates movie on TV as well as Oceans 11
- Stood in a very long line at Marble Slab just to get frozen yogurt (my weight watcher's friends should be proud!)
All in all, we mostly relaxed, but it was great! Ft. Worth is a fun city. I really enjoyed being there, it's a little less scary than Dallas (in terms of crazy people), the buildings are pretty, and there are actually fun things to do right in downtown. Had we had a few more days we would have done a lot more things. We'll definitely head back there soon for either the zoo or the museum that has the "Star Wars" exhibit.
Picture 1: Kyle in front of one of my favorite buildings we saw, the courthouse
Picture 2: What I love about hotels: they make your bed for you, chocolates on your pillow before bed, fun views, maid service, a complimentary leather bookmark left on my opened book, room service, free shampoo, conditioner, and lotion, and clean towels every day.
Picture 3: A picture of the famous Bass Performance Hall, it really is a beautiful building. And if you walk by before a performance starts you can get your picture taken with guys in white curly wigs and British-looking outfits - complete with long white socks (we were on the wrong side of the street to stop)!

So glad you had so much fun-- without the kiddies. One of these days you need to make it out to the ZOO! I think a nap sounds FANTASTIC! Happy spur of the moment vacation!
WOW, sounds like fun! What I would do for two days with just the two of us. I am glad you could get away together.
Uh... hello? Kyle's going back to school? Details please.
Looks really fun! It is definitely great when you stay in a hotel that gives you free chocolate :)
Sounds like heaven to me too! It is good you got away before school started full swing - it can seem like forever between moments alone once that starts. If it isn't you him and the kids it'll be you him and the books!
Ginger-
Yeah, Kyle's headed back to graduate school. He's FINALLY decided what he wants to do in life (a little later than we'd have liked, but oh well). He's going to get a PhD in psychology and become a marriage and family therapist. Unfortunately he has a semester and a half of regular psych classes to take before he can actually apply to a graduate program, so he's taking BYU online classes this summer and attending a university this fall as a bachelor-degree seeking student. As soon as he has those classes out of the way he can apply to grad school and we'll know a little more where we'll be for the next few years. I'm not too excited about him being back in school, but I'm REALLY happy that he's found the right career for him, so I can manage for a few years. Funny he's going into a field related to what I graduated in. :)
You make it sound and look so lovely (Fort Worth that is). I guess places are always more exciting when you don't live there!
The best part was seeing us right? I feel so lucky that we were included in your get-away. Thanks for inviting us.
And I'm glad you could do something nice and relaxing!
My temporary home sounds cool! I can't wait to move and see you guys!
