Just a little friendly advice...when you're traveling to Hawaii, don't get there on a Saturday evening when you're too tired to even think and the next day is Sunday so you can't go swimming. It's just pure torture! To satisfy our swimming itch we took a walk on the beach, kept ourselves busy for a few hours at church, and then drove up to the Punch Bowl Crater to pass the time. Early Monday morning we hit the beach in our bathing suits glowing from the reflection of the sun on our white skin!
This is the Punch Bowl Crater. It is an extinct volcano and the location of the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific. Ancient Hawaiian's offered sacrifices in this crater, it is also the resting place of Hawaiian royalty and U.S. veterans. It was an amazing place to visit. The kids even sensed the reverence of this cemetery and were unusually quiet!
