Me, Myself, & I

One of my favorite people to talk to is...well...me. I talk to myself all the time. A lot of times it's in my head, but a lot of times it's also out loud. It's so bad that sometimes during the day Janelle says to me, "Mommy, are you talking to me or to yourself?" Usually, it's to myself. As I was talking to myself this evening while making dinner, I started reminiscing over the things that I had said to myself today. Here is what I remember:

Preface: I did not sleep well last night at all, so I woke up extremely tired and not feeling well.

8:30ish am:
-"Should I go to the gym?"
-"YES! You have to get your running in today."
-"But I'm SO tired. My knees are tired, my head aches and my throat hurts."
-"Just go."
-"Fine. But I better lose 5 lbs today."

10isham: (At the gym - although this particular conversation was in my head.)
-"Laura, GO HOME! Your making yourself feel worse by staying on this dang treadmill." (No arguing, I just went home.)

5ishpm: (While folding laundry)
-"Awww...I can't wait to try these shorts on Spencer, they're so cute!"
-"They're kind of wrinkly. Maybe I should iron them first."
-"Nah. He's two, no ironing for two-year-olds...unless it's church clothes."
-"Holy cow, this pile of laundry is stinkin' huge! I'll fold it, but I am not putting it away."
-"Whatever. You know you always do."
-"Oh yeah?!?!"
(to Janelle)
-"Hey Janelle, come put your clothes away."
-"Okay Mommy." (Actually puts her clothes away without a fuss!)
(to Spencer)
-"Hey Spencer, come put your clothes away."
-"Otay Mommy." (Then picks up all his toy cars and runs with them into the playroom not to be seen for a few minutes.)

7:30ishpm (While pouring tortellini into some boiling water.)
-"Hmmm...I think it said to cook it for 16 minutes." (Setting the timer...watch tv for a few minutes.)
-(While on the couch flipping channels) "Wow, 16 minutes is a long time. Usually it's only like 3 or 4 minutes."
-"Yeah, I should probably check the package to make sure."
-(Reading) "Boil 6-7 minutes."
-"Doh!"

Not the most enlightening conversations ever, but at least I always have myself to talk to. Yes, I know, I'm weird. And I'm definitely lacking in enlightening blog topics this week.

You're too funny. I've usually got multiple conversations going on in my head simultaneously. Every once in a while I'll verbalize an answer, while to those around I just look like a loon. It's probably better that most of my inner dialogue stays silent. ;o)

That's funny. I do the same thing. When you spend almost all of your time with young children, you've gotta come up with some way to converse with an adult throughout the day, right?!

You're funny! At first I was thinking "yeah I talk to myself too" but when I read the rest of it, I realized that it's not quite like that. It's really just when I have a decision to make. The rest is usually in my head. I esp. like that Janelle asks if you're talking to her or yourself!

LAURA, I so do the same thing, Jeff thinks I am a psycho, espically when I talk to myself in the third person, like you do. When Jeff is gone for work, and the kids are in bed, it's just me, myself, and I. ;)

I grew up with my dad talking to himself all the time. He still does. I'm so used to it. Don't worry, your kids will get used to it too.

Laura you're so funny! I have to admit I do the same thing. I think sometimes if I say it out loud I won't forget what I need to be or am doing as fast as if I keep it all in my head. :D Plus it helps little ones learn language skills, right, right, we'll just keep telling ourselves that. :D
