Holy cow, I can't believe Janelle is actually at school. It's a weird feeling. Like it has aged me a few years. Hope there aren't any gray hairs up there!
We got up at 7:15, had Janelle's favorite breakfast (crepes, of course), got dressed, fixed some major bed head hair, brushed teeth, mouthwashed, got shoes on, grabbed lunch and backpack and we were off! I knew it would be comforting for her to walk to school with her buddy, Josh. Even though she doesn't know a soul in her class she was reassured that she would see him and her other primary friends during recess. We made the 10-minute walk to school, meeting the friendly cross guard on the way, and then walked her to her class! She'd met her teacher a few nights before, so she walked right in, plopped down in her seat, gave Kyle and I hugs and then sent us crying out the door! (Okay, not really. Neither of us cried, mostly we were just proud of how grown up she was being about it!)
Poor Spencer doesn't quite understand the concept of Janelle being at school. He keeps saying, "Where's Janelle?" Then when I tell him she's at school he defiantly says, "No. Spencie's 'kool." Whatever that means. I kept him busy with a big shopping trip first to an educational store (I love stores like that!) and then to Sprouts (a farmer's market style grocery store). He was actually REALLY good. Crazy since all other times we've gone shopping he ends up screaming 2 minutes into the trip. He was so good I let him pick out some chocolate covered pretzels for a treat. Yea! Hopefully we're growing up just a little bit! After shopping, we came home, had lunch, took naps and now I'm blogging. It's still weird to me that Janelle is still at school. Those poor kindergarten teachers, what are they supposed to do with 5-year-old for 7 hours during the day? Oh well. I'm sure I'll get used to it!
Happy first day of school!!!

She is so grown up!!! I can't wait to hear how she liked it!
Our kindergarten is still only half day here and people complain about it not being enough time to teach anything!
So glad you got such cute pictures of Janelle's first big day! Tell her to call me, I want to hear all about it!
How exciting that she is a kindergartener! I can't wait to hear about it. I hope she liked it. I bet she will come home exhausted! That is a long day for a 5 year old!
Thanks for walking with us. After sitting for 30 minutes in the drive up line, I am walking after school too. Need a walking partner for the afternoon too??
Wasn't it a weird day? Thinks felt so quiet around the house. All I could hear was Ben in his bedroom talking to himself and humming. We missed our Josh, but boy did he have fun! When I told him that he got to go back today, he was so excited!
One day down, 13 more years to go!
How adorable. I heard about your grand walking caravan this morning. I'm excited to hear all about what goes on in kindergarten these days. Play time, colors, numbers, telling time, snacks, and my favorite: naps.
do they really still do naps?
Wow, 7 hours? Is that how long most Kindergartens are now?
I'll bet Janelle loves it! Happy first day of school, Janelle!
can i just tell you how jealous it has made me reading about everyones 1st days of kindergarten??
she looks beautiful and i bet she had a great day. is she in class with anyone she knows??
I am finally starting to get caught up on the blogging bit and finally got a chance to come visit your blog. I had a lot to catch up on. I can not believe how Janelle looks. She goes for a full day? Spencer I am sure didn't know what to do with himdself. It is hard on JJ when Abby is gone and she is only on half day.
