Potty Help!!!
Spencer picked up the whole peeing in the toilet thing in a snap! I was so happy! However, for some weird reason he's totally afraid to poop in the toilet. I've read that that's a common fear, but how do you fix it??? I know he's had to go for two days now, but he's just holding it in because he doesn't want to go on the toilet. Gross! I've tried bribing him with a beloved train, I've tried bribing with privileges, I've tried bribing with chocolate, I talk to him about it all the time, we've read books, we sit and sit and sit in the bathroom, and now I'm completely at a loss as to how to keep it a positive experience so that he'll WANT to. Help! Any suggestions?

Feed him more fiber and nature will take it's course.
sarah cracks me up. regan kindof did this, she would wait until nap or night time when we had a diaper on her to go. so i just left her diaper off at those times and she would cry because she didn't want to poo on the floor or in her bead. not the most sanitary method, but it worked.
good luck!
Sam was the same way. It used to make me nuts! One thing I've learned about potty training and that is you cannot force them to do anything until they're ready to do it. I would just put a diaper/pull up on him and give him a little relief. The longer he holds it in, the worse it's going to get. Then when you're back to square one I like the fiber idea. This is all about finding a balance between not making a huge deal and encouraging him to do it. I don't envy you in this. Good luck!
Sarah- I actually have been giving him extra fiber! Of course today while my friend was watching Spencer he pooped in his pull-up. (Sorry Emily!) Thanks Sarah, Becki, & G for the advice- I think I'm just not going to worry about it. I'll keep him in underwear but if he tells me he wants to wear a diaper, I'll let him. He won't want to poop in his pants forever, right? :)
I don't know what to tell you, but I had a nephew who had this problem. He eventually grew out of it. But it took a long time. (I won't tell you how long b/c it might make you scared) But I think it is important to be relaxed about these sorts of things. I had a friend say to me once, "have you ever known an adult who couldn't go to the bathroom unless they had a medical condition?" Her point was for me to relax because eventually it would happen.
My other thought was if its continues for a while talk to his doctor and get suggestions from them.
Good luck. I'm terrified to potty train a boy, I don't know why. I guess b/c I have no clue what to do!
Miranda did that to. With her I noticed that when she had that urge she would go and hide to do her business in her diaper. So I finally followed her and got her to sit on the potty. I kind of had to hold her down and just reassure her that it was OK and thats where the poop needed to go. It seemed to have work! Good luck!
Are you using the regular toilet or a training toilet? Try putting him on the toilet backward if you're using a regular toilet. For some reason it feels more stable and less like they'll fall in.
Ugh. Same problem here, I'm no help. Good luck to both of us I guess!
Good luck! I have no advice. At least he waits for a diaper/pull up. Kathryn didn't care and pooped in her underwear. It lasted a few months but once she was ready, she never looked back!
