Strike Two....almost.

The weekend after Thanksgiving, our town always puts on "A Dickens of a Christmas" in the historic part of town. It's pretty cute, the store employees dress up as Dickens characters, there are carolers walking down the streets and the streets are all decorated for Christmas. Last year was a blast! They had a sledding run, we got to see Santa and do some fun kids activities...all for free.

This year was super lame. I was really disappointed. Practically everything cost money...even to take a picture with Santa. When I realized I was going to have to pay $20 for my kids to get a picture with Santa because I couldn't take one with my own camera, I decided it totally wasn't worth it. We'd see Santa somewhere else...for FREE! (Yes, I'm cheap! I have a husband in grad school!) My kids were pretty disappointed, but I figured we'd find some other fun things to do. Wrong. Seriously, nearly everything cost money. Fortunately they got to play tic-tac-toe with peppermints and presents, got a free balloon, and got to make a snowman magnet. We couldn't even find the booth for writing letters to Santa that they had last year! I felt so bad for my kids because I knew it was totally lame!

We bought them popcorn from our favorite candy/popcorn store because we felt so bad for them!

After about an hour of walking around Kyle and I decided to call it quits. But as we were walking through the streets to our car, a Christmas miracle happened! We practically ran into Santa! A FREE Santa who was just wandering the streets talking to kids. My kids were SO happy, especially Spencer. Santa told Spencer he'd grown so much since he saw him last year and that if he was good he'd bring him the car wash (for his Hot Wheels cars) that he wanted. We also heard him tell another little boy who wanted some kind of Spiderman toy, that he was good friends with Spiderman and that he'd known him since he was little, before he was swinging on buildings with spiderwebs! I'm pretty sure he was the real Santa...the REAL Santa doesn't charge you an arm and a leg just to sit on his lap. Thank you Santa! You saved the day!

So the day wasn't totally a bust, we got to see Santa after all and we left with free balloons.
