Realization...

The only 4 times my kids are completely quiet...

1. When they're eating dessert.
2. When they're watching TV.
3. When they're getting in trouble.
4. When they're asleep.

All other times of the day at least one of them is either: talking, singing, yelling, banging, making silly noises, crying, laughing, screaming, knocking, crashing, dumping, whining, narrating, fighting, etc., etc., etc.

Not that those noises are a bad thing. I'm totally used to it. It just dawned on me tonight as Janelle and Spencer were savoring their strawberries and whipped cream for dessert that there are only a few precious moments of the week that it's completely quiet at our house. And tonight at 6:04 was one of them!

You'll never look at Graham Crackers the same again

This is from one of my textbooks:
  • This spirit of sexual repression made its way to North America, where a clergyman in New York City preached enthusiastically against the dangerous effects of "excessive" sexual activity. Sylvester Graham believed that men younger than 30 were not fit enough to have sexual intercourse without exhausting physical consequences and that married couples should avoid having sex more than once every 3 years. Graham believed that certain foods unduly stimulated the digestive tract and led to sexual arousal. If cheeses, milk, and eggs were eliminated, along with meats and spicy foods, and replaced with bland grain crackers (which incidentally became known as "Graham crackers") then women and men would regain control over their sexual urges. Interestingly, Dr. John Kellogg (founder of Kellogg cereals) developed corn flakes as an alternative to Graham crackers.
