The good ol' days...

Kyle and I recently went to go see the McKinney High School production of "Seussical" (he got free tickets for doing the programs, so we couldn't turn down free date night). Anyway, it was really cute and they did a really good job, but it totally made me reminisce to those fun days in high school putting on the productions of "My Fair Lady," "Hello Dolly," and "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat." They were good times of singing, dancing, stress, friendship, and being in the spotlight. Sometimes I miss those times. It's hard being mommy 100% of the day. I can't even seem to make it to ward choir practice. What happened to the talents I was able to develop during those school years? They seemed so important to me at the time.

But then I got to thinking, all that I once learned is now being passed on to my daughter. Hearing Janelle sing, "I Love to See the Temple" or "I am a Child of God" all by herself makes my heart swell more than I ever thought possible. She sings to herself all day long while she's playing or taking a bath, or supposed to be taking a nap. My endless hours of Spanish classes through high school and college have definately paid off when Janelle counts in spanish or uses spanish words randomly throughout the day. The painful piano lessons are paying off by playing primary and children's songs while Janelle pounds the upper treble keys. She knows that music is important to me, and already wants to learn to play songs all by herself.

So what I originally thought to be lost talent, I soon was able to realize is talent modified to fit my daughter's needs. Who appreciates it more than your own children? The best reward is watching my own daughter's talents slowly evolving. With a little encouragement and help, she's going to be great.
