"Heavenly Father heard Daniel and kept him safe."

Primary Program + Janelle = Sacrament Meeting Comic Relief
(This picture isn't really related to this blog entry, it's just a good picture of her personality!)

Today Janelle participated in her very first primary program as a Sunbeam. Sometimes I forget that she is one of the youngest kids in her class. But days like today definately make me remember that 1. she's not 4 like the rest of the kids yet and 2. how VERY STUBBORN she is!

They had the sunbeams get up first to do their parts. So Janelle was the third Sunbeam to say her line. (The title of today's blog entry.) We'd practiced it all week long, and we even had a special family home evening to talk about the prophet, Daniel. She knew it backwards and forwards. I kept telling her over and over that she was so lucky that she got to get up in front of all the boring adults and talk in the microphone, and that she knew her part so well that she wouldn't need any help. So she gets up there and Sis. Lovren is about to help her with her line when she says, right in the microphone, "I don't need any help!" Of course everyone laughs. So we wait... and wait....and wait, and I suppose she got stage fright because she wouldn't say anything. So Sis. Lovren tries again to help her. But Janelle wouldn't hear of it. She stubbornly tells her (still in the microphone), "I need my MOMMY to help me." Kerrie (Lovren) looks hopelessly at me, so I get up in front of our entire ward to go help Janelle say her line.

That was just the beginning.

After she sat down in her seat, she kept standing up to wave to Kyle and I. Kyle and I kept motioning to her to sit down and be quiet, but apparently we need to teach her sign language, she kept waving through the rest of the program.

During most of the songs, Janelle was dancing and lifting her dress up all over the place rather than singing.

Fortunately, Janelle has one smart primary teacher who brought little lap toys for them to play with. That kept Janelle busy for a little while.

After one of the songs, she decided she was tired of all the standing and sitting, so she just stayed standing. The primary president tried to help her sit down and even tried to have her sit in her lap, but Janelle was definately too stubborn for that. After a few tries, the poor primary president was having no success, and Janelle started to cry. So Kyle had to rush to the other side of the chapel, pick her up, and take her out. After threatening her that she couldn't sit with her friends anymore, she agreed to behave and was allowed back up to the stand.

She seemed to behave after that. However, for the rest of the songs, she had a little frown on her face.

(SIGH)

Lots of people came up to us after the meeting to tell us that they enjoyed watching our little stinker Janelle.

At least it's over 'til next year!

Janelle,
You turned a regular ol' primary program into something special. We thought you were hilarious!

Too bad you couldn't bring a video camera.

This will go down in the Mammen family history books as a day you will never forget. It was SO adorable!

That is hilarious! I wish I could have seen it. Isabella starts primary in January, I wonder what our first primary program experience will be like!

I love it! Colin didn't say his part for his first program. I guess it didn't help that we drove back into town (to Houston) that morning from Dallas and he was extremely tired. He sat on my lap on the stand and I even went up to help him and I think I ended up saying his part. Kids are so funny!

That is the funniest story ever! It reminds me of all of our sunbeams, but they don't even get speaking parts! It's funny to think that sometimes she seems so much older than she is you know? And then you realize she has only been here for 4 little years. I wish I could've been there to see her!

Funny little Janelle with a mind of her own. That is so great, I wish I could have seen it. I think she got more of the Platt personality then the Mammen personality. Don't you? The Mammen's are not stubborn at all.

Jenni- No, I'm pretty positive she's got a LOT of Mammen in her. Ha ha! Although, to be honest, there's some pretty hard headed Platts around too. No wonder she's so stubborn, it runs strongly in BOTH sides!

That's so funny! Isn't that why Primary programs are so great? I'm sure everyone appreciated Janelle's own additions to the program.
