Okay, not that I don't love Spencer to pieces, but Janelle has done some of the funniest things in the last few days. Our blog seems to be all about Janelle lately. Here's a few funny things she has said: (Spencer's turn is coming soon!)
"Mom, we should call Spencer 'Spitty Spencer' because he spits up so much."
"I don't have a mouth." (After trying to convince her to finish eating her green beans at dinner one night.)
"I never rided in a cheerio." (After seeing the Fruity Cheerios commerical.)
Okay, this last one takes a little explaining. Today at lunch, I was asking Janelle what kind of birthday cake she wanted this year since her birthday is in a few weeks. I kept suggesting a ballerina, or "Cars," or animal cake. But she was very insistent that she wants a Christmas cake. She's very aware that Christmas is very close to her birthday, so I was thinking maybe she wanted a cake shaped like a Christmas tree, or snowman, or ornament. However, that is NOT what she meant by Christmas cake. Here's what she explained to me,
"A Christmas cake has a baby Jesus on it, and then we can share it with him. Do you think he would like that?"
(Me) "Of course he would like that, but Jesus lives kind of far away in heaven."
(J) "Is heaven in the sky?"
(Me) "Yup."
(J) "Well, we can ride in an airplane and go visit baby Jesus."
(Me) "I think heaven is a little farther away than an airplane can go."
(J) "How 'bout a hot air balloon ride?"
(Me) "Nope it's still pretty far for a hot air balloon." (I was fairly amused by this point, so I decided to see where the conversation was going to go.)
(J) "What about a helicopter?"
(Me) "No, still too far for a helicopter."
(J) "I KNOW, we can take a flying horse to go visit baby Jesus....NOW can I have pudding?"
And that was that. I now know what a Christmas cake is. I was very impressed that Janelle remembered that Christmas is the day we celebrate the birth of Jesus, and even more impressed that she wanted to share her birthday with him. Conversations like this make me appreciate my job as mommy all the more!

Hey Laura,
I remember you too - just not as a Mammen! I didn't know you were living around here. It's so nice to be close to your mom, isn't it?
Your kids are absolutely adorable! I loved hearing about all the funny things Janelle is doing and saying - what a fun age.
Good to hear from you. I'll have to add you to my blog roll!
Laura!
This one cracked me up! I've also been feeling like all my blogs are about Bella and not enough about Natalie. But we're working on it. Bella's said some funny things too and I've been collecting them for a blog. But that Christmas cake, and taking a flying horse to heaven takes the cake! Aren't kids fun?
Have fun making that cake!
What a sweet heart Janelle is, I love those kind of conversations.

I love hearing about all the cute things that kids say and do. Their imaginations are amazing! That's really neat the Janelle already feels the true Christmas spirit.
She is such a cutie pie! I can't believe the things kids say. They are so imaginative and so smart! I love it!
