A few days ago I bought a few travel-sized items for a little trip we're taking this weekend. Since I've been gone most of the weekend, they've just sat on my kitchen counter. This morning I was doing some things in the kitchen before church and Janelle found the things I'd bought. She lined them up very methodically and then told me about her "family" she'd just made up. From left to right we have Grandpa, the dad, the child, the baby, the mom, and Grandma. She is so funny, she can turn ANYTHING into something she can play with (like a piece of string, or a spoon, or even a shoe!). Even after taking almost all of her toys out of her room and putting them in the playroom, she still can find little things to play with when she is supposed to be sleeping. Oh, to have the imagination of a child again!
She also told me today, "Mom, you look as pretty as me!" (After seeing me in my church dress - I was flattered.)
Janelle had the primary spotlight today. She was given a paper bag and told to put three of her favorite things in it to show the primary. She'd told me all day that she wanted to talk about them all by herself, so I told her that I'd just stand in the back and listen to her. The first thing she told the primary president when she got up there is, "I can do it by myself!" (I'm sure ALL of the primary presidency knows that she likes to do things by herself after previous primary incidents - like last year's primary program.) So she got up there and first pulled out her goggles - "I like to go underwater." Next she pulled out a bracelet that my mom got her from Hawaii. Originally she had worn it to church, but I guess she wanted to talk about it so she stuck it in her bag (which made 4 things that were in her bag now). I thought she would say something like, "My Grandma brought this to me from Hawaii and I want to go there," because that's what she'd been telling me all morning. But I guess she got a little stage fright and she simply said, "I like Hawaii." Following the bracelet, she pulled out her Princess Ariel toy because "I LOVE Ariel." And then finally she pulled out a picture of her and Spencer, "I love my brother." It was simple and to the point, and she actually did a good job doing it all by herself.
A few mornings ago, I had to get Janelle out of bed to get ready for preschool. I could tell she was really tired, but if she slept in any longer she would've been late. She slowly got out of bed and then I told her to go into the bathroom to go potty. (Which she does the first thing EVERY morning.) Her sleepy but serious response this morning, "I don't know where it is." Finally, here's a recent video of Janelle cheerleading. I was trying to record her without me seeing her because she was making up these hilarious cheers, but I was discovered. It's not quite as funny as before she saw me, but it still makes me laugh to watch the video.

I wish I could see Janelle more. She seems like quite a character!
Look at all that energy! She is SOOOOOOOOO grown up!
Whoo! Janelle, you are such a princess.
No way. I'm collecting a list of funny things Sam says in a blog draft called, "Samisms." Now I'm going to have to think of a new clever title. Doh!
so funny-glad that her spotlight went well and that "she could do it all by herself!" that's so funny. Rylei has to do the scripture and prayer this sunday, and hopefully she won't say, "bless me that i will listen to mommy and daddy."
Rylei is going to be a cheerleader for halloween, maybe we'll have to have janelle teach her a few cheers!
have fun in SA!!
