Swimming 101

For most of Janelle's life, she's been very timid of water. The bathtub is fine, but in swimming pools she usually just stays in the shallow end and splashes around. I really wanted to get her into swimming lessons last year, but having a newborn, I just didn't get around to it. So this year, we're starting early. I signed her up for a spring swimming session, and she started her first class on Tuesday. I thought she would freak out, but to my surprise she LOVES it and is the bravest one in her class! She talks the ears off of both of her teachers, of course, and always wants to do everything first. On Tuesday they started having the kids just blow bubbles in the water, then today they had them try going under water. As soon as they asked who could do it, Janelle just dunked herself underwater! I was SOOOOOOOOOOOOO surprised! I probably told her 30 times before she went to bed tonight how proud I was of her. Hopefully by the end of the summer she'll get the basics of swimming down. Here's a few more pictures of her class today:

This is goofy Janelle at the end of her class - she kept saying, "Did you see me go underwater, Mom? Did you see me?"
Way to go Janelle! We'll turn you into a little swimmer yet!
(I'm not quite sure what she's doing with her leg - posing I guess!)

yeah for Janelle! That is such a relief for you I'm sure. Now you won't have to stress too much about both kids in the pool! Always a plus. Colin was swimming about this same time when Cameron was a year old. I think I'll still have to do arm floats with Cam this summer, but he was doggie paddling last summer in shallow water. We'll have to wait and see.

Laura, I am so excited for the boys to start their swimming lessons in July. I think they will love it. So glad that Janelle does, her little leg looks so funny.

Way to go Janelle! I swear our girls are twins born 1 year apart to 2 different families (if that were possible). The way you described Janelle and her reactions to water are EXACTLY how Bella is now. I've talked for a while about putting her in lessons - now I have hope that if I do she might actually take off and do it.

Good job Janelle! Looks like fun. I'm excited for Avary to be old enough for that.
