I always love sitting down and eating lunch with Janelle, we always seem to have the most interesting conversations. Today's was no exception, our conversation went something like this: (You'll get a big kick out of this Emily, since you were part of it.)
J: "Mom, when is your friend, Emily, going to get married again and have a baby girl? She has two boys, so she needs a girl."
Me: (I was a little confused by this question.) "Why does she need to get married again?"
J: "So that she can have another baby!"
Me: (Apparently, in her mind you can only get pregnant immediately after a wedding.) "Well, usually you only get married once."
J: "But then how is she going to get a girl baby?"
Me: (Oh dear, I knew this would come up sometime soon.) "Weeeeeeeeelllllllllllllllll...when a grown up girl and a grown up boy get married and love each other very much they can make a baby together. They can do it as many times as they want to, but they only have to get married once."
J: "Oh! And you made me!"
Me: "Yeah, that's right."
J: "And then you made Spencer!"
Me: "Uh huh."
J: "And you named me Janelle, and I was a very cute baby."
Me: "That's right."
We continued to talk about baby names after that, and I was grateful that she was content with my explanation until I can figure out how I'm going to explain it in more detail when she gets a little more curious. I think I'm going to have to rehearse it so I don't get flustered and forget what I need to say!

Oh little Janelle, the next time I want a little girl baby I will head right down to the cabbage patch and pick a favorite... (great explanation Laura... this has come up in our house a little bit too. It's all about keeping it BASIC. Their little minds can't quite grasp the whole concept quite yet...)
Oh little Janelle, I am so honored to have occupied your little thoughts. You are such a cutie pie.
How funny! I don't think I'd know what to say. You did a good job.
Too cute! Yes, we've had some conversations like that! I've said something like 'when a man and woman get married and the mommy & daddy are ready, Heavenly Father puts the baby in the mommies tummy. Babies are miracles and there they grow for 9 months. I don't even want to go there (you know) with Colin yet. You covered it very nicely, though!
Ooo, Mindy, that's good - I'm using that next time, thanks!
