Janelle started her last session of swimming lessons for the summer. (She did three sessions this summer because we are going to Lake Powell in August and I wanted her to be comfortable in the water.) During the last week of her last session she started complaining that her ears were hurting. She never ended up getting an ear infection or "swimmer's ear," but this time I decided to just take the precaution and put ear drops in her ears to dry the water out. I explained to her that we had to do this every day after lessons so that her ears didn't get infected. I also got her some lubricating eye drops because she swims with her eyes open underwater and they are so red afterwards. So she knows all about ear/eye irritation and infection.
Tonight after dinner Janelle was playing with her ponies in the playroom, when she came up to Kyle and I who were doing dishes in the kitchen with a very solemn face,
"Rarity (her favorite pony because it's a unicorn) is so sick. Her hair is infected because she has been swimming TOO much."
I told her I didn't know that hair could get infected. But she was very insistent of Rarity's condition. So Kyle says,
"Don't worry, honey, only unicorns can get hair infections. Little girls can't get that."
(Janelle) "Yeah." And then she was off to play again - although Rarity was not allowed back into the pool.

I love what kids come up with. I loved Kyle's reply, it is very reassuring. Poor Rarity, a hair infection sounds pretty bad.
