March of the Penguins

(Revised at 4:40pm when I remembered more of it!)

Kyle is a major sleep talker. It's usually pretty funny, so when he does it I try to talk back and see how much I can get out of him. Usually if I talk to him long enough he wakes himself up, gets confused, or just lays back down and goes back to sleep. One night a few years ago he sat up at 2am and asked me if I was scared because the dragon was coming (he was reading The Hobbit before he went to bed). After I told him I wasn't scared he looked around our room and asked me a second time if I was scared and then laid down and went right back to sleep! He also asks me all the time who I am right in the middle of the night - which I'm not sure if I should be insulted by or what?!?!

Two nights ago Kyle sat up around 2:20am with his eyes open and said,

"I need my phone, I have to call the SPCA."

(me) "Why?"

The penguins are trying to cross Virginia Parkway!"
(Virginia is a street here.)

(I was wondering if this dream came from all those movie previews for "Surf's Up" - you know, the movie about the penguins that surf?) So I asked him,

"Are they surfing?"

Kyle looked at me like I was crazy and said,

"NO, I just don't want to hit them!"

Then he went back to sleep. I totally cracked up! Thanks for the midnight laughs, honey!

I talk in my sleep too... and it is always held over my head! But, I do have to say, the penguin talk is HILARIOUS. Both Jeff and I got a good laugh, Thanks Kyle.

That is a good one. I think sleep talking is a sign of intelligence. Only brilliant people do it.

How do you not just fall out of bed laughing! I don't talk in my sleep and maybe that's why I find it so hilarously fascinating. Great stuff.

I do similar things. One day just after we were married I sat up in bed in the middle of the night and exclaimed, "My mother's in the parking lot!" Another one of Anthony's favorites to tell is how one night when he came to bed after studying I sat up and said, "I'm popular." The conversation went on for a long time, but I told him I was standing in the middle of a coliseum and everyone was looking at me, and THAT was why I said I was popular. Weird, I know. I've woken up before in the middle of it and been to embarrassed to admit that I'm awake so I just keep on pretending.
