Goin' Pink!Today I attended the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure with my cousin Sarah and Aunt Terry. I ran the 5K and it was a really neat experience. Definitely one I would love to do again. There were breast cancer survivors as well as all kinds of supporters there. The cancer survivors were wearing pink t-shirts, so you could tell who they were. It really was an eye opener to see women and even some men of all ages wearing pink shirts. There were elderly women, middle aged women, young moms with kids... It felt good to be there and show my support even though the only people I knew there were my cousin and aunt! There were 25,000 participants (and that doesn't include all the sponsors and security and media that were there) - it was HUGE! I'd never done a race of that proportion before.
The start of the race was CRAZY! I didn't get to the start line until 5 minutes after the race had started, and even then it took a good mile's run to get past a lot of people. By the second mile I'd left behind the walkers and had joined the speed walkers and by the third mile I finished with all the joggers. I finished in about 35 minutes, which I know is kind of slow, but you try running with 25,000 other people! I'm so happy I did it and it was totally worth getting up at 6:00 on a Saturday morning! If you ever get the chance to run this race, I would definitely encourage you to do it.

Great job! I'm sure it was inspiring. I'm thinking of doing a cancer walk this weekend, trying to round up friends to do it with me first though.
Good for you, Laura! I wish I had it in me to do that right now..maybe when I'm done with school. It feels so good to participate in something like that.
That's awesome! Good Job!
