Well, after spending New Year's Eve keeled over the toilet, I'm happy to report that this morning I could actually get out of bed. Let me tell you, if you've successfully avoided this stomach bug that is going around STAY HOME AND DISINFECT EVERYTHING! Or if you are going to brave the germ infestation that is out there, just wash your hands a billion times a day, even if they end up getting raw. That was probably the mother of all stomach flus. It was horrible! First it was horrible cleaning up after a sick 18-month-old who had no concept of throwing up in the toilet, then it was horrible having to deal with a cranky baby and whiny 5-year-old while Kyle was sick all day Sunday, THEN it was horrible cleaning up and trying to help our 5-year-old make it to the toilet the 14 or 15 times she threw up, and THEN to make matters even worse I ended up with it. It didn't help that I was already trying to get over a cold.
The ironic thing is that I hardly ever get sick. I get headaches and cramps here and there, but other than that I rarely am sick enough that I can't even get out of bed. I spent Saturday suffering from a sore throat and cough, but nothing too bad. Then Sunday rolled around and Kyle came down with the stomach flu. I teasingly commented that he was stealing my sickness thunder - seeing as I never get a day in bed. I guess I forgot to knock on wood. After spending the night thinking I just might die, yesterday's events included a "Smallville" marathon and trying to keep down popsicles and Gatorade while wandering in and out of consciousness.
BUT...
Today, while I'm not completely back up to 100% I successfully made it out of bed and even managed to eat 4 bites of malt-o-meal Kyle made me for breakfast. And though it was totally not worth it, it was nice to start the year 5 lbs. lighter than I was in 2007. We'll see how long it stays off and when I need to reinstate the yearly New Year's resolution to lose a few lbs. Until then I'm enjoying seeing the numbers on the scale. (Once again, it was so NOT worth it!!! I will never understand anorexics.)
Speaking of Kyle, my husband is the sweetest nurse. I'm not sure what I would have done without him yesterday, he was so wonderful. He took care of the kids, making sure Janelle was getting the proper care she needed after her yucky night too, he ran to Wal-Mart (the only grocery store open yesterday) even though it was insane to get some Gatorade. He even took Spencer to the park while Janelle and I were sleeping so Spence could run around (because he's completely fine by now). He switched "Smallville" discs for me because I seriously could not even stand up. He checked on me all day long to see if I needed anything. I love him so much! Thank you for being so patient yesterday Kyle!
Anyway, today is going to be a fairly mellow day, I'm just really happy the worst is over! I'm just hoping yesterday is not a premonition of how the rest of our year is going to go. Ha ha! It can only get better, right? Today is definitely going to be a Lysol clean sweep day for our house. I am going to spray EVERYTHING!!! Okay, maybe not everything today, seeing as I just barely made it out of bed today. But definitely by tomorrow morning our house will be disinfected. Thanks to my blogger well-wishers! Remember: Wherever you are, wherever you go, WASH THOSE HANDS! I sure don't want any of you to have to go through the last week we have.

I'm glad you are feeling a little better today:) Call you soon.
Oh man, that does not sound like fun. I think you guys got something different then my dad and Taylor. They were sick but my dad never even threw up and they got it at the same exact time after eating at the same Gyro restaurant. So I think it was food poisoning. Kayce was feeling nausious one night but never threw up either and was fine the next day and everyone else has been fine too. So you all must have picked up (or Spencer since he was first) something on the airplane. I am sorry you all had to endure through it. But I guess looking on the bright side of things it happened at a pretty good time since it was in between both of your trips. I hope you all stay healthy now and have a great time in Hawaii. It was great seeing you guys!
I'm losing confidence that you can avoid getting sick. I feel like I've been the hand-washing nazi this year and the cloroxing queen but we still keep getting bugs. I still think all that is a good idea, but I'm losing faith that it helps as much as I hoped it would. I'm glad the worst is over for you guys!
Sounds horrible, glad you lived through it to tell the tales. Being sick is bad enough, but taking care of sick kids WHILE you are sick is NOT MY IDEA OF A GOOD TIME. Hope you feel even better today, and tomorrow... etc!
Oh, that sounds awful! I am so glad that you are feeling better. I am glad that Kyle has been around to help out.
Yuck! That sounds just awful! I'm so glad you're getting over it quickly though! Smallville always makes me feel a little better! What season did you watch?
Thanks everyone - I am finally back to my normal self today. What a relief!
Erin- I'm half way through season 5 of "Smallville." It's pretty intense. Poor Lex, I want so much to like him, but he just keeps getting more and more evil.
you poor thing. I'm glad you're better!
