I knew it was just a matter of time before we were going to have to buy a pair of
I am not a fan of character apparel at all, so of course it's obvious I would have a two-year-old that revels in it. And not only that...Spencer LOVES shoes. It's the weirdest thing - what toddler likes to wear shoes? Spencer does. The first thing he asks for when he gets up is for Kyle or I to put on his shoes. He goes around our house looking for shoes then walks around the house in them. Anyway, a few months ago I broke down and bought him a "Cars" t-shirt at Target, but only because it was $5. Then a few days ago we were at the sprinkler park and Spencer found a pair of "Cars" crocs, put them on, and started walking around in them. So today I had to take him to Payless to get some church shoes...a chore I've been dreading for weeks. I knew he was going to go crazy the second we walked in the doors, and sure enough - shoe stimulation overload! Of course the first shoes he finds are these "Cars" tennis shoes. I decided to bribe him, "If you try on these church shoes first, then you can try on the "Lightning" shoes!" It worked! I got the church shoes on, then we tried on the tennis shoes. He was so cute when we got them on, I decided to just let him get them. (He needed tennis shoes anyway.) He wouldn't even take them off when we were done.
The second he got out of the bath tonight, the first thing he had to do was put on his beloved shoes. I'm sure we will be getting plenty of
out of these!"Spencer, we'll put them back on when you wake up, okay?"
"No!"

*Sigh*
"Spencer, why are you so sad?"
A rather defiant, "Shoes."
"Are you sure you want to sleep with your shoes on?"
"Yeah!"
*More sighing*
"Alright."

I'm happy to report I had to go back into his room this evening to change his diaper, and successfully got his shoes off without a tantrum. Maybe he figured out it's not too comfortable sleeping with your shoes on...even "Cars" shoes.

oh, that is too cute. you are too patient because i wouldn't have let him keep them on, but you're right, why argue with a toddler.
regan does the same thing with shoes right now-she wants to wear them even if we are just staying home, always has to have them on. must be the age.
That's so funny! Sam is the same way, but only with his crocs. He loves to put those things on, and he always insists on doing it himself. If he puts them on the wrong feet, and I have to fix them, he gets SO mad. He also gets mad if I try to make him wear any shoes other than his crocs.
Laura that is so cute! I loved how you blogged it too. It's so funny the things they are so particular about. My little boy Bradley is about the same age as your Spencer, and he hates wearing collared shirts, which is what I love. Every now and then I can get him to wear one, but most of the time he only wants the simple t-shirt. :D
What a crack up. I've never known a toddler to love shoes that much. So funny.
Hi-larious. I saw him skating around in your brown sandals yesterday. ;o) I'm seeing a wedge heel, strappy, with some kind of bling.
How funny! I'm the same way about character apparel. He must really love them if he wants to sleep with them on. Cute.
This is too funny! I hate character apparel too unless its pj's BUT this winter when I COULD get Natalie out of her pj's all she'd wear was princess shirts. And I have a shoe problem w/her too, not that she's obsessed with wearing them BUT that she only has 2 pairs that she likes (which I must say is better than Bella's 30) but these 2 pairs are growing increasingly too small and she REFUSES to try anything else. I guess I need to try and find the same shoes in new sizes!
Such a nice mommy you are!! I'm not a fan of character things either. Hayden loves Cars. He would love those shoes. Spencer is so funny!
Oh this is just too funny Laura, I got such a kick out of it. You were so nice to let him put them back on!
I love the naked with shoes on picture. He is too cool for school!
I feel the same way about character apparel and of course my boys love it. Spencer does look cute though wearing his new shoes. What a cute kid! My boys love "CARS" stuff too.
That is too funny! My little boy loves shoes too. As soon as he wakes up he has to put his crocs on. My older son would love those shoes. He is a big Cars fan.
Good for you to let him sleep in them. I say as long as there is no dog poop on them- go for it. They're the ones who will be uncomfortable...at least we think so. I love the smile on his face!
My poor kids have an anti-character colthes, shoes, room decor or anything Mommy too pjs are fine but that is about it. I think that the shoe thing comes from the Platt side. I know that JC and Trey both have a thing for shoes and so do my kids Cody and ordyn so I think they come by it naturally. I have enjoyed your last few blog I just read them all today, you have so many fun things there for you kids to be involed in, St. Johns is a little behind!
That is TOO funny!
