Totally worth it.

Not only does Janelle get Martin Luther King Day off, she also got today off! Lucky girl, getting a 4-day weekend already when she just got back from Christmas break!

Unfortunately today was FREEZING cold, so there was no way we could go outside. Fortunately we had some friends coming over this morning. When they left we had lunch and Spencer went down for a nap while Janelle & I read library books together. Then I had to work for a few hours (new marketing project for my dad) while Spencer slept. Janelle worked on her story she's writing for school and then colored. By the time Spencer woke up, I was at a loss as to what to do. Fortunately I took a quick break after working and checked Melissa's blog. She does some of the cutest activities with her boys! Today she posted a recipe for "Chocolate Mug Cakes." Totally cute! Despite the time on the clock (4:00pm), I decided to go for it even though I knew it would completely ruin their appetites for dinner. (Sensible-Mommy-Mode-Override, right?)

So we went at it...

Measuring.

Mixing.

Egg Cracking.

More mixing.

Smelling.

Microwaving....
....that's right! These babies cook in the microwave in 3 short minutes!
Cooling.
And oila!!! You have chocolate cake in under 20 minutes!

Not only did I let them eat their cakes before dinner, I let them have it with the works...vanilla ice cream, chocolate syrup and whip cream. Yep, when we ruin dinner, we REALLY ruin dinner.

I will definitely be paying for the sugar overload until after bed time, I'm sure.
But it was worth it!

Thanks Melissa!!! You inspired a fun afternoon that could have potentially been a very boring one! (Visit her blog for the recipe - linked above)

I was totally thinking that if we were smart we would have planned our trip over this weekend because Ayden doesn't have preschool today or Monday either (for Martin Luther Kind day...that is what you meant, right?) Then Ayden and Janelle would see more of each other and Ayden wouldn't miss three preschool days. Oh, well. It will still be wonderful next week. We can't wait. Ayden tells everyone about it.
Those mug cakes look great. How did they taste?

One great thing about coming when we are coming is the weather is supposed to be warmer. The forecast says a couple of the days will be in the 70s. That will be awesome!

Uh...yeah...MLK day, thanks Jenni! I guess I'm a season behind. :) I know! I just barely realized Janelle had today off on Wednesday. Oh well. I told Janelle she could miss a day of school when you guys came so she's way excited. Yesterday Janelle came home from school really grouchy and all she could do was complain on the way home. So finally I said, "Why don't you think about something happy?" So she gets a huge grin on her face and says, "All I can think about is Ayden and Alex coming, it's going to be SOOOO fun!" It was cute!

Thank heavens for warmer weather! Oh yeah, and the cakes weren't actually too bad. I think they would have tasted a lot better baked, but it was worth the 3 minutes in the microwave. They loved watching it rise in the microwave. Janelle told me they were delicious! Oh yeah, and next time I'll use one recipe for two mugs, they turned out huge.

Janelle and I are on the same schedule. Are my eyes playing tricks or is that a Hannah Montana shirt she's wearing?! AHHHHHH!!!
