During the month of March, our ward's home-teaching lessons were supposed to consist of checking up on everyone's 72-hour kits. Our ward (
and stake) have really been emphasizing having them recently. Kyle and I decided it was time to get off our lazy rear ends, and get it done. So last night during "Battlestar Galactica's" season finale we crammed all our emergency supplies into 2 bags. Fortunately Kyle has a HUGE REI backpack that holds almost everything, plus we have an additional backpack for extra food. The biggest problem we ran into was packing things for our kids. You're supposed to have clothes, shoes, jackets, diapers, etc. for all your kids. But kids grow out of things so quickly that you really have to rotate them every 6 months rather than once a year. So we decided to just throw in clothes that fit them now and try to be good about rotating them whenever we go through clothes. As for Spencer, we decided to forego trying to pack any diapers and clothes for him just because he is growing WAY too fast for us to keep up with. In an emergency we'll just grab his diaper bag which has everything we need for him anyway. For a list of essential 72-hour kit items you can go to the church's Provident Living website. Even though our home teachers probably won't show up (they hardly ever do), we're prepared!
