So, last night after a fairly fun and successful Saturday, Laura went to Hobby Lobby to finish one more errand. We figured that while she was out she could pick out dinner, but we didn't know what we wanted yet.
While getting the kids ready for bed, I got a craving for some pasta, so I called Laura and suggested Jason's Deli. Laura said that sounded great and asked to me to pull up the menu and come up with a few ideas for her and then she'd call me back when she's was about ready to leave.
When she called back she was fairly noncommittal when it came to my suggestions. She then told me to just surprise her with something. I said, "You're setting me up for failure." She replied "I know that you can pick out something that I'll love."
Anyone wanna guess what happened?
I ordered her a marinated chicken breast salad. I tend to prefer more simplistic salads (caesar), and this one had a lot of stuff I knew Laura would like (guacamole, olives, tomatoes, etc.), so I thought she'd totally appreciate me getting her a salad that she loves.
Boy did I read her totally wrong. It turns out that "I know that you can pick out something that I'll love," translates into "I've been really good with diet and exercise this week and want to eat something really good that's not good for me."
So the salad was placed in the fridge to save for today's lunch, and I ran off to Braum's to pick up my wife a hamburger and french fries.

I would just like to re-iterate that I had been REALLY good with eating and exercising all week long, and I'd had enough salad for one week. Saturday's dinner was my one splurge day for the week. Who likes to splurge on salad? Sometimes a girl just needs to eat a hamburger.
i totally know where you are coming from laura-but i tend to splurge all week long!! a girls got to get some fattening food once in a while, but we need to learn that we need to tell our hubbies EXACTLY what we want, because they DON'T know.
Becki- I know, it was totally my fault. What a sweet husband I have to put up with it!!! From this experience I specified to Kyle that "You pick out something good for me" means "You pick out something good - something that you would eat (meaning it's probably not going to be good for me). And I'll tell you when I want salad."
Oh laura, laura, laura. Classic. This one could go in the books on "what women say vs. what women mean."
I feel for you Kyle. =)
How funny!! And way to splurge Laura. That's what working out is for, right?
hahaha- such a girl thing to do. and yes you deserved that burger, way to go.
