Triathlon Day

As of today, I can officially call myself a "triathlete." I have to say, it's actually a great feeling! I had a really fun time and wouldn't change anything different about it! If you're ever wondering what a triathlon is like, here is a great documentation for you. Kyle and my parents took a million pictures. I'm not complaining, it was fun to be the star of the day!

My day started at about 4:20am. We had to leave the house at 5:10 to make it there at 5:30, but I was too nervous to sleep any later than 4:20. We picked my friend, Sheri up who was also participating in it and we headed on over to the tri-madness!

First we got marked with permanent marker all over our bodies with our race numbers and age. If you see me at church tomorrow you will still see traces of my number because it wouldn't come off completely!
Sheri and I both WAY overestimated our swim times when we registered so we had to wait around for about an hour before it was our turn to hit the pool. That was fine with both of us, it meant we got a good feel for what to do once our turns came. Plus both of us ended up passing tons of people in the pool, so it was a major ego boost.

If you look closely it looks like I'm walking on the water in this picture!

This is Sheri's jump into the water, Kyle captured it perfectly and I think it's the coolest picture!

Here I am swimming along...

Changing lanes into the last leg of the swim.

At the end of the swim, you jump out of the pool, tear your swim cap and goggles off and run bare foot into the transition area.

Here I am realizing that I'm going to have to quickly redo my pony tail lower because my bike helmet isn't fitting over it. What a waste of 7 seconds. Oh well. Now I know for next time!

The bike ride was exhilarating. I loved it!

Once you're over the bike mount line, you run your bike back to the transition area, stick it on the rack, take your helmet off, grab your race number and hit the road.

I have to admit, the run was the hardest part for me. I am so not a runner. I don't think I have the body for it. The run actually took me 5 minutes longer than I thought it would. Probably because I was hotter than heck by that point, and I certainly didn't do much training at 9:00am when it's already 98 degrees outside. Can you believe I passed a woman who was 8 months pregnant? She was walking the 5k, but I couldn't believe it. Talk about inspiration!

Here are my hot little fans. They were good sports to wait in the hot sun and cheer me on!

I was just about 100 yards by this point and SO HOT! I really was going to sprint the last part in, but the path was pretty curvy and I was just too exhausted. Not good conditions for sprinting.

Way to go Sheri!!!
Oh, SO happy to see the

Water bottle stealer and...

Sheri and I were both stoked by the time we were done! Yea!

It was a great experience and definitely one I hope to do again!

Way to go Laura! Good job, I am very impressed. It is so great that you set a goal for yourself and then you accomplished it. I am sure it feels good. That is funny that you and Brad both did one on the same day.

I'm tired just reading about what you did. You're amazing. I could never do that and raise 3 kids (and a husband...ha!). You did great!

How did you do it? I wouldn't even know where to begin and I can't believe you planned it for July. You're nuts! Congrats on the accomplishment.
