Oh boy, Spencer's {almost} 3!!!

This morning Kyle and I braved the 90+ degree hot, humid weather to throw Spencer his very first friend birthday party (even though his birthday isn't actually until the 29th). Normally, Kyle and I decided we'd only throw big parties for our kids at the ages of 5, 8, & 12, but this is the first year Spencer actually understood about birthdays and he was so excited about it, I just couldn't resist! (Plus Janelle had a little friend party at 3 too, so I figured it was only fair.) :) We decided to keep it simple and small, but it still turned out really fun! It was the perfect party for 4 three-year-olds...and 2 six-year-olds.

Here's what was on the activities agenda:

Playing in the pool and "water slide."

Slip 'n Sliding

Bubble Blowing

Water Balloon Toss...
...that turned into a water balloon attack on Kyle!
Spencer thought it was the most hilarious thing ever throwing balloons on Daddy and getting him all wet!

Cupcake Decorating

...and then stuffing our faces with said decorated cupcakes!

Sprinkler Ball Thingy Fun!
Kyle surprised the kids with this cute sprinkler that squirts little balls out of it. It was a huge hit!

And the biggest hit of all...
The Baby Pool "Sandbox" filled with Construction Vehicles

I wasn't too keen on spending a ton of money on a sandbox, nor was I crazy about the actual upkeep of a sandbox, but I knew the kids would love playing with construction trucks in some sand. Here's the solution I came up with, I found this teeny tiny baby blow up pool at Target for $5 and then spent another $5 on sand to fill it. The kids loved it! Seriously, there was always at least one kid in the sand the entire duration of the party. It got really funny when all of them decided they wanted in on it though! Now I have a temporary sandbox that will last us maybe a couple weeks, and then I can throw it away!

Present Opening

Popsicle Cool Off Break

Then we thanked all our friends (and cousins) for coming, wished them all "Happy Birthday" (because that's what Spencer thought you were supposed to do), and then said goodbye!

...And then we all conked out!
I actually had to wake Spencer up twice from his nap, I couldn't believe it! (Notice his little cars he got for his birthday lined up on his bed.) :)

Too cute!

That temporary sandbox idea was great! I remember playing in the one in Grandma's backyard for hours. Something therapeutic about sand, I think.
